For years now Hollywood movie experiences have dominated the theme park scene across the world.
Just think of Universal Studios theme parks in the US and the Disney Hollywood theme parks across the world, from the US to Europe and Asia.
Now, for the very first time, the world will be able to visit a Bollywood-themed entertainment park in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates.
The 57,935 square metre Bollywood theme park is part of the Dh10.5 billion Dubai Parks and Resorts entertainment village that also hosts Legoland theme park, a Legoland water park and Motiongate theme park, which is based on Hollywood movies such as Game of Thrones and The Green Hornet.
But now it’s Bollywood’s time. On 17 November the gates opened to the celebratory sounds of fireworks, dance and music based on popular hit Bollywood movies as thousands of fans descended on the park.
Bollywood Parks is divided into four zones: Bollywood Boulevard, Rustic Ravine, Mumbai Chowk and Royal Plaza. They are all interlinked with walkways and bridges, with souvenir shops and restaurants or cafes dotted in between the thrilling rides and immersive experiences.
Those who know their Bollywood films will recognise some of the big hit movies that will come to life at the park. These include Ra.One: Unleashed based on Indian actor Shah Rukh Khan’s science fiction film, and a virtual reality ride, Krrish: Hero’s Flight featuring actor Hrithik Roshan as a superhero battling aliens attacking Mumbai city.
For the smashit Hindi movie Lagaan, Indian hero Bhuvan and his team engage in a game of cricket against the British Raj.
The Lagaan experience is set in the Rustic Ravine and comprises a thrilling ride on a motion simulator that literally makes you feel like you’re clinging on to a hurtling cricket ball. For Lagaan an entire Indian village has been recreated, complete with rocky terrain, lots of greenery and typical rural farms.
For the movie Don the Chase, they’ve created a mini Mumbai that guests can explore via a 3D motion immersive tunnel while chasing criminals along with the Dubai Police and of course, SRK.
The impressive Rajmahal Theatre complex that can seat 1 000 guests and will host Broadway-style Bollywood musicals several times a week.
Dotted throughout the park are Indian restaurants where you can sample everything from delicious Punjabi curries to Mumbai streetfood.
Other highlights include a suburban Mumbai railway train and the Bollywood Film Studio featuring the Hall of Heroes that takes you behind the scenes on a film.
The Bollywood Dubai theme park is set to thrill those who love all things Bollywood as much as those who have never experienced its magic.
