Virtual Reality Technology

Virtual reality (VR) means merely experiencing such things via computers which do not exist in real time. In scientific terms, it is an artificial environment which has been created by a mixture of interactive software and hardware. However, while presenting to the user, the doubts are removed, and the artificial environment feels like a real environment.

In a layman language, it is a 3D computer created a world which the user explores and feels he is there physically and mentally. In short, virtual reality has five elements, i.e., the virtual reality is believable; it is interactive, computer-generated, explorable and immersive.

Types of Virtual Reality devices

The virtual reality devices are of various kinds. There are PC powered devices and mobile-powered VR devices. The PC powered VR devices are usually more powerful and better built, giving the user a complete VR experience. On the opposite, the mobile VR devices are portable; they usually have an additional extensive range of compatibility with phones.

However, it requires that the smartphone must be high end and latest. Usually, Google’s Daydream and Samsung’s Gear VR are commendable in this regard. Despite the type of device, the user should also pay close attention to the kind of environment in which the device would be used. It is because, on the one hand, there are devices which demand the sensors to be installed in the space to be used, while on the other hand, there are devices which have sensors that are built within the device.

The composition of VR devices Kit

The most crucial component of the VR devices is its headset. It looks like a pair of goggles which is worn on the eyes. This headset is then connected to a couple of headphones. Not only this, but some devices also provide extra accessories ranging from treadmills to controllers which add to the simulated experience of the user.

The hand controllers aim to translate one’s real-world movements into the application or game being used.  Moreover, the virtual reality devices have separate app stores which look similar to the smartphone app stores, providing the user an option to download and browse apps and games.

Categories of Virtual Reality

There exist various virtual reality categories depending upon their levels of immersion and applications. Firstly, there is a non-immersive simulation in which only some part of the senses of the users is simulated. In this, the user also has a peripheral awareness of the real world. The 3D environment is entered via a window or a portal consisting of HD monitors.

Secondly, there are semi-immersive simulations in which the user is not fully immersed. They after being powered by the graphical computerized systems, are connected with projectors to simulate one’s visuals. Lastly, there are fully-immersed simulations which simulate the entire senses of the user.

The Cost

Talking about the expenses required in purchasing the VR devices, it is to be noted that the field of virtual reality is not cheap. Not only the VR technology devices are expensive, but also the software required for running them add to the price. However, the experience that this virtual reality gives to the user is worth its price tag. Google’s Daydream costs only $69 whereas Samsung’s Gear costs relatively high at $97.5.

Conclusion

Overall, it would not be wrong to state that the industry of virtual reality is proliferating and in about ten years, it would become an integral part of the lives of people.

Nowadays, the most important application of this VR technology can be seen in the field of aviation training. It has been predicted that soon, virtual reality will be playing a significant role in the future of customers.
